Der Freischütz, revisited
Ensemble Wolf
Carl Maria von Weber’s *Der Freischütz* is the quintessential example of German Romantic opera, and it is well known that Richard Wagner held it in the highest regard. Ever since its premiere, arrangers have continually produced transcriptions for all manner of instruments. In towns where there were no theatres capable of staging such spectacular productions, this practice undoubtedly helped to introduce and popularise its impressive overture, as well as its most famous arias and choruses. The version by the Berlin-based Karl Flachs for wind ensemble dates from 1822.
Programme:
Ludwig van Beethoven: Rondino, WoO 25
Carl Maria von Weber: Der Freischütz (transcription for wind instruments by Karl Flachs).
