Two great Romantic trios
Trio Impromptu
Caroline Poncelet, violin
Alexandre Beauvoir, cello
Elodie Vignon, piano
Frédéric Chopin composed very few chamber music works. Apart from a few pieces for cello, mainly those dedicated to his friend Auguste Franchomme, the Trio Op. 8 is his most significant composition in this field. Fascinated by the melodies of Italian opera, it is in his Nocturnes that he best captures their spirit and lyricism. Franz Schubert’s Trio No. 2, Op. 100, is one of the last compositions in his extensive catalogue of chamber music. Its moving slow movement has been used many times as film music, most famously in Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon.
