Born in Geneva in 1994, Mathis Rochat began training at the age of 15 with Antoine Tamestit in Cologne, before studying with Tatjana Masurenko in Leipzig. He made his debut at a number of international festivals in 2016. A member of the international elite of young violists, he has been invited to perform alongside such renowned artists as Gidon Kremer, Lynn Harrel, Pinchas Zuckerman, Adam Laloum, Pierre Fouchenneret and David Kadouch. A graduate of the Queen Elisabeth College of Music, he now teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. He has embarked on a long period of research into the sound of his instrument, and plays a viola by Pierre Vidoudez dating from 1949.
