Gérard Corbiau’s *Le Maître de Musique* is a unique Belgian film, born from an intimate confidence shared by José van Dam and driven by a profound reflection on the transmission of art. The director’s first feature-length fiction film, released in 1988, it transcends the framework of the musical film to become a quasi-documentary meditation on the profession of the opera singer.
