### Vox Luminis
Early and Baroque music
August 1 2026 - 18:00
                                    The Church of St. Sebastian
Der Freischütz, revisitedNon-subscription concert and Honorary Members’ Evening concert
Vox LuminisLionel Meunier, conductor
Vox Luminis takes us on a veritable journey through time, offering the Stavelot audience a beautiful selection of motets by Johann Sebastian Bach – music in which the Leipzig Cantor draws inspiration from the choral tradition as conceived by Martin Luther in the 16th century. To the simplicity of the genre’s origins, Bach brings all his skill in the expression of emotions, transforming these prayers into true Baroque tableaux, rich in the colours of the instruments and intense fervour.
Programme:
Johann Sebastian Bach: Sing to the Lord a New Song, BWV 225Johann Sebastian Bach: The Spirit Helps Our Weakness, BWV 226Johann Sebastian Bach: On the Evening of That Same Sabbath: Sinfonia, BWV 42/1Johann Sebastian Bach: Jesus, My Joy, BWV 227Johann Sebastian Bach: Come, hasten and run, ye swift feet / Adagio, BWV 249Johann Sebastian Bach: Fear not, for I am with thee, BWV 228Johann Sebastian Bach: Come, Jesus, come, BWV 229

### Satellite Ensemble
String trio
August 3 2026 - 11:00
                                    The Monk's Refectory
Génération Classique
Ensemble Satellite:     Lia Manchon Martinez, violin     Coline Meulemans, viola     Marc Martin Nogueroles, cello
The exquisite transcription for string trio of Bach’s Goldberg Variations will lead the Satellite Trio into the intense and passionate music of the Dutch composer Emmy Frensel Wegener. And it is with the work of another composer, also performed for the first time at our Festival, that the winners of the ‘Génération Classique’ competition will demonstrate their infectious energy. Of Jewish origin and born in 1919 in Poland, Mieczyslaw Weinberg was one of the witnesses to the tragic fate of certain artists during that turbulent period; having taken refuge in the USSR, his career was fraught with obstacles, which he managed to overcome, thanks in part to the help of Dmitri Shostakovich.
A project by the Festivals de Wallonie. In partnership with the Conseil de la Musique and, more specifically, the 6x12 project. With the support of the National Lottery and its players, PlayRight and the PBA – Palais des Beaux-Arts de Charleroi.
Programme:
Johann Sebastian Bach: Goldberg Variations BWV 988 (excerpts)Emmy Frensel Wegener:  Suite for violin, viola and celloMieczyslaw Weinberg: String Trio Op. 48

# The Festival de Stavelot, Chamber Music *con fuoco*

The Festival’s reputation rests on the many and varied artistic ventures that it has undertaken since its original incarnation in 1916 as the Concerts Micha, founded by Octave Micha, the father of Raymond. With his friends, Raymond went on to found the Festival de Stavelot in 1957, and took part in the creation of the Festival de Wallonie in 1971.

## The halls

**The Festival experience**

If many of our attendees are seduced by the special feeling that surrounds the festival, it is probably due to the beautiful setting in which it takes place.
The historical importance of the Principality of Stavelot-Malmedy as a cultural and religious centre is well known; and as a result, everything remains in place to frame the festival.
The Abbey is accessed via either the park, where the imposing remains of the original Abbey building are located, or through the Court, one of the recently-restored wings of which houses The **Triangle Bleu**, a contemporary art gallery with a fine reputation. The glass-enclosed cloister provides access to various performance spaces, notably the **François** **Prume** **Room**and **The Monks’ Refectory**, both regular venues. Higher up in the town, located on either side of the Place Saint-Remacle, are the **Church of St. Sebastian** and **The Chapel of the Capuchins**.
