The ensemble was founded in 2000 by Thomas Van Haeperen. Like the Romantic movement Sturm und Drang ("Storm and Passion"), the ensemble upholds the ideals of freedom, passion and emancipation of the individual. The word "Klang" ("Sound") emphasises vitality, precision and refinement of sound. The programming focuses on the repertoires of the 20th and 21st centuries, with original and demanding projects in dialogue with the present time. While the ensemble supports Belgian musical creation and the younger generation, it also rediscovers forgotten personalities of the 20th century.
